About department

The creation of the Chair of Theory of Language and Intercultural Communication at RAU was fostered by the specificity of teaching foreign languages to students of all RAU departments. Foreign languages have been taught at RAU has been since its establishment. Relying on the programs developed and confirmed by the Scientific and Methodological Council of the Ministry of General and Professional Education of the Russian Federation, the Chair has developed and implemented its own language programs for all the RAU departments. Our students are granted the opportunity to study English, German, French, Spanish, Turkish, Persian and Arabic at several levels (basic, elementary, intermediate, advanced and proficient).
The staff of the Chair of Theory of Language and Intercultural Communication consists of around 70 lecturers among which PhDs and associate professors whose considerable experience lies in profound knowledge of the subject, high professionalism and the ability to work with any audience applying various approaches and methods depending on specific educational targets, including most up-to-date methodologies practiced abroad. Most lecturers of the Chair have had internships in universities in the US, Great Britain, France, Spain, Germany and other countries. The Chair collaborates closely with the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Area Studies of Moscow State University, Moscow State Linguistic University, three chairs of the English language, Chair of German and Chair of French of Yerevan State University as well as respective chairs of Yerevan State Linguistic University named after V. Brusov.
Lecturers of the Chair conduct intensive scientific and methodological work. The Chair regularly invites foreign colleagues to conduct lectures, workshops and training sessions at RAU as well as regularly participates in scientific and methodological conferences. The scientific component of the Chair includes work with RAU PhD students. Serious work is also done at RAU Center for Pre-University Education. There is a Language Center at the Chair of Theory of Language and Intercultural Communication. Educational programs designed by the Chair allow providing a vast range of services both for RAU students and staff and for all those who are interested in studying or mastering a foreign language.
