Institute of Humanities

The Institute of Humanities, the innovative educational division of the Russian-Armenian (Slavonic) University created on the basis of the integration of humanitarian and social knowledge, was founded by rector’s order № 01-07/351 from May 15, 2012.

The Institute includes 7 departments which provide courses on Humanities

The Institute of Humanities contributes to creating a solid base for interdisciplinary research in the field of Psychology, Linguistics, Philosophy, Philology and Foreign Regional Studies, thus, enabling graduate students to receive profound quality education in Humanities and succeed in any field of human activity.
The Institute has a Center for Chinese Language and Culture and a Center for Japanese Studies, which contribute to in-depth training of students in Chinese and Japanese languages, expanding relations with China and Japan. Our students have the opportunity to study at the best universities in China and Japan.

1978-1983 — studied at the Historical and English department of the Institute of Russian and Foreign Languages named after V. Y. Bryusov.
1987-1990 — Postgraduate student of the Institute of History of the Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR.
In February 1992 he defended his PhD thesis on the topic “Sanctuaries of the country of Commagene and Armenia".
2002-2006 — Senior Lecturer at the V. Ya. Bryusov Linguistic University.
2006-2013 — Associate Professor of the Department of World History of Yerevan State University.
In 2014 he defended his dissertation on the topic “Mithraism in the political and religious-ethical system of the Ancient World. Commagene, Sophene, Armenia, Rome".
2006-2023. Head of the Department of World History and Foreign Regional Studies, Director of the Institute of Humanities RAU.
"Commemorative Medal of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Armenia for the greatest contribution to the field of education and science of the Republic of Armenia" (2019).

RAU Gold Medal "For High Merits and Significant contribution to the formation and development of the Russian-Armenian University" (November 2021)
Author of 13 monographs, 97 scientific and 4 public articles, 2 educational publications, open editor of scientific collections “constitutional articles in RAU”, “Ex Oriente Lux. Changing the worldview paradigm from Eurocentrism to universalism”. Editor-in-chief of the electronic journal Urbis et Orbis. Microhistory and Semiotics of the City" is a scientific peer–reviewed open access periodical organized to discuss theoretical problems related to urban space, cities in literary texts, as well as visual-semiotic and microhistoric studies.

Participant of an international research project INTAS 79/7107 in attach the programme on "Bridges as Res publica: implications for modern self-governance in Eastern and Western Europe". Due date: 2004-2006.

Head of the scientific topic of the scientific project "The City as a way of life", carried out under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Armenia. Due date: 2010-2012).

Head of the joint project in the field of Armenian-Russian humanitarian scientific cooperation "Committee on Science of Ministry of Education and Science RA - Russian State Science Foundation – 2014". Research topic: "Civilizational and cross-cultural aspects of the formation of the Roman world during the transition from the republic to the principate". Partner: Department of the History of the Ancient World and the Middle Ages of the Nizhny Novgorod State University named after N.I. Lobachevsky. Due date: 2014-2015.Due date: 2014-2015.

Head of the research project: «Civilizational and cross-cultural aspects of the formation of Roman world during the transition from Republic to Principate». Due date: 2014-2016.

Senior researcher of the research project "Folk epic creativity of the Armenian and Russian peoples. Comparative study of the epics of the peoples of the world". Within the framework of the RAU development program. Due date: 2015-2016.

Head of the project "At the junction of ancient world systems: from the history of contact zones of antiquity and modernity", implemented within the framework of the RAU development program. Due date: 2015-2016.

Scientific director of the research project. Together with the School of Oriental Studies, National Research University - Higher School of Economics. Topic: "Trans-Eastern Christianity: the Euphrates contact zone on the Great Silk Road". The program of financing research activities of the RAU MES of the Russian Federation for 2016. Name of the project topic: The Trans-Christian East: on the bridges of the silk highways of antiquity and modernity.

Scientific Director of the research project "18T-6A220": "Tiflis in the Armenian and Georgian historiographical tradition. The phenomenology of the city, the history of everyday life (XVIII- the first quarter of the XX century)". Due date: 2018-2020.

Leading Researcher of scientific topics of assistance to leading research initiated by the Scientific Committee of Armenia (grant project 21ag-6c041) "Cognitive, communicative and semiotic mechanisms of formation of historical memory and national identity: transdisciplinary analysis of the Armenian epic, historiography, urban space and political discourse".
